AI workers for Reddit

Ready-made AI workers for Reddit: watch the communities where your product comes up, surface the questions nobody answered, and reply only in the subreddits you allow.

What is an AI worker for Reddit?

An AI worker for Reddit is an AI agent scoped to a specific community job, such as tracking what a subreddit is saying about your product or finding support questions that never got a reply. It reads posts and comment threads through your connected Reddit account, and it can submit, comment or vote only in the subreddits you have allowed. A worker with no write permission physically cannot post anywhere.

What these workers do

Track mentions across subreddits

Watches the communities where your product comes up and reports what was said overnight, instead of someone remembering to search.

Find unanswered support questions

Surfaces questions in your subreddits that nobody replied to, while a helpful answer still lands in front of the person who asked.

Check the rules before posting

Reads a subreddit's rules and recent threads first, so an announcement goes somewhere it is allowed rather than getting removed.

Summarise a long thread

Reads a thread that ran to hundreds of comments and reports the positions people actually took, with the thread still linked.

Reddit questions, answered.

Can an AI worker post to Reddit on my behalf?

Only if you grant it, and posting is off by default. Reading and writing are separate permissions, and the write permission is narrowed again per subreddit, so a worker that monitors many communities can still be allowed to post in only one. Everything it posts is attributable to the connected Reddit account in public and permanently, which is why the two decisions are kept apart rather than bundled into a single switch.

Is it safe to connect an AI agent to Reddit?

Yes, within limits you set rather than limits it sets. Access is scoped per subreddit, individual authors and link domains can be excluded, NSFW content can be blocked outright, and fields such as the author name can be hidden from the worker entirely. Every call it makes is logged. Most Reddit workers are read-only, which means the account they run as cannot post, vote or message anyone at all.

Do I need my own Reddit API app?

Yes. Reddit enforces its API rate limit per registered app rather than per user, so each account registers its own app at reddit.com and supplies the client id and secret once. That keeps your throughput yours: a busy worker on another account can never eat into your quota. It is a one-time setup step, after which connecting a Reddit account is an ordinary approval screen.

Can it read my Reddit inbox?

Only with a permission that is separate from reading public posts. Private messages sit behind their own grant, so a worker built to watch public discussion has no route to your inbox unless someone deliberately gave it one. The same applies to moderator surfaces: queues and logs can be read where your account moderates, and moderation actions such as removing posts or banning people are not supported at all.

Can it upvote or downvote for me?

Only with the vote permission enabled, and it is off by default. Reddit's own rules require votes to reflect genuine human judgement, so this is deliberately a narrow grant rather than something a worker gets along with reading. Where it is enabled, it is still limited to the subreddits you allowed, and every vote is recorded in the audit log against the worker that cast it.

What AI workers can do in Reddit

The tools a worker can be granted in Reddit once you connect it. A kit grants only the ones its job needs, and you can narrow them further on the worker.

Get My Reddit Profile

Get the connected Reddit account's own profile (username, karma totals, account age) plus a per-subreddit karma breakdown. Use it to learn which account posts and replies will be attributed to. A null `karmaBySubreddit` means the connection lacks the mysubreddits capability, not that the account has no karma. Render any `accessInfo` verbatim.

List My Subreddits

List subreddits the connected account subscribes to, moderates, or is an approved contributor in (`where`=subscriber|moderator|contributor). Each row carries the community's name, title, description and subscriber count. Token rules may hide some communities: a shorter-than-expected list with a non-null `accessInfo` means rules limited what is visible, not that the account left those communities. Paginate with the response's `after` cursor.

Get Subreddit

Get one subreddit's profile — title, description, subscriber and active-user counts, NSFW/quarantine flags — INCLUDING its community rules. Read the rules before posting or commenting there: many communities remove posts that violate them. Pass the name with or without the r/ prefix. An ACCESS_DENIED with `accessInfo` means the token's rules exclude this community; render the message verbatim.

List Subreddit Posts

List a subreddit's posts. `sort`=hot|new|top|rising|controversial. Reddit has NO arbitrary time filter on listings: `timeFilter` (hour|day|week|month|year|all) is honored only with sort=top or controversial, and `since` (ISO 8601) only with sort=new — where it is honored by honest boundary pagination that stops at the timestamp; other combinations are rejected naming what IS supported. For a dated question prefer sort=new with since, or reddit_search_posts with timeFilter. Items withheld by token rules are named in `accessInfo` — a short page does not mean no posts exist. Paginate with `after`.

Get Post

Get one post by id (accepts '1abcxyz' or 't3_1abcxyz') — title, body, author, score, flags, link target. Does not include comments; use reddit_get_post_comments for the discussion. The response's `fullname` (t3_…) is the id that votes, saves, reports and replies take.

Get Post Comments

Get a post together with its comment tree, flattened and depth-tagged (each comment carries `depth` and `parentFullname` for threading). `sort`=confidence|top|new|controversial|old|qa. Deep threads are truncated by Reddit — `accessInfo` says so when the tree was cut; the returned portion is still coherent. Comments withheld by token rules are also named there. A comment's `fullname` (t1_…) is what replies and votes take.

Search Reddit Posts

Search posts across all of Reddit, or inside one subreddit when `subreddit` is given. `sort`=relevance|hot|top|new|comments; `timeFilter` (hour|day|week|month|year|all) is honored with every sort here, so this is the right tool for a dated keyword question (e.g. mentions of your brand this week). Items withheld by token rules are named in `accessInfo`. Paginate with `after`.

Search Subreddits

Find subreddits by name and description — use it to locate the right community before listing or posting. Returns each community's name, title, description and subscriber count. Paginate with `after`.

Get Redditor Profile

Get a redditor's public profile — karma totals, account age, moderator/verified flags. Pass the username with or without the u/ prefix. An ACCESS_DENIED means the token's rules exclude this author; render `accessInfo` verbatim.

Get Redditor History

A redditor's public post/comment history (`where`=overview|submitted|comments), newest first by default. `timeFilter` applies only with sort=top or controversial. Returns separate `posts` and `comments` arrays; items withheld by token rules are named in `accessInfo`. Paginate with `after`.

Read Reddit Inbox

The connected account's private messages (`where`=inbox|unread|sent). This is a privacy boundary: it needs both the read_inbox permission on the token and the inbox consent tier on the connection — a 422 with `accessInfo` names which is missing. Messages withheld by token rules are also named there. Paginate with `after`.

Submit Reddit Post

Submit a post to a subreddit as the connected account — publicly attributable to it. `kind`=self (text, default) or link (requires `url`). Read the community's rules first (reddit_get_subreddit): rule-violating posts get removed and hurt the account's standing. Requires write access on the token AND a token rule allowing writes to this subreddit; denials name the missing grant in `accessInfo`. Returns the created post's `thingFullname` and public `url`.

Reply on Reddit

Reply to a post (parentFullname t3_…) or to a comment (t1_…) as the connected account — publicly attributable to it. Requires write access on the token AND a token rule allowing writes in the parent's subreddit; denials name the missing grant in `accessInfo`. Returns the created comment's `thingFullname` and permalink `url`.

Vote on Reddit

Vote on a post or comment as the connected account: direction 1 = upvote, -1 = downvote, 0 = clear the vote. Reddit's rules require votes to reflect a human's judgment — vote only when the user asked for it, never to manipulate scores in bulk. Requires write access and a rule allowing writes on the target's subreddit.

Send Reddit Private Message

Send a private message to a redditor as the connected account. Needs write access, the send_message permission, the inbox consent tier on the connection, AND the recipient not being blocked by the token's author rules — denials name the missing grant in `accessInfo`.

Subscribe to Subreddit

Subscribe the connected account to a subreddit, or unsubscribe with `unsubscribe`=true. Requires write access and a rule allowing writes on that subreddit.
